After over 15 years working in HR and Training (last 10 years in Social Housing) Claire left to concentrate on coaching and training.
"I first ran Equality and Fairness training approximately 10 years ago and I was smitten with this area of work, which eventually led me to leave the safety of employment and start my own training business concentrating on coaching and training"
"A participant on a recent E&D training course commented that I, not only wasn't a man I also wasn't black; I somehow resisted the temptation to say "well done"! - my development sessions are about us all as human beings and not just the strands focussed on by legislation.
We live and work in an increasingly diverse society that is not consistently represented in our places of work. Today, there are enormous pressures on organisations to improve diversity in their own workforces: the implications of the Report of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry for our public services have been huge, and the business case for working with diversity is compelling.
It is clear that diversity training can and does work, but too many organisations fail to realise the benefits. The desire to do something can be so strong that it becomes a need to do anything, with disappointing consequences.
As an organisation your starting point may be answering the following 4 questions:
- where are you in relation to diversity issues
- where do you want to be
- what route will take you there, and
- how will you know when you have arrived, and are ready to move on further.*
